Find the Pickaxe Inside Hollowgrave Tunnels
Get the early pickaxe from the stone shelf in a room inside Hollowgrave Tunnels, behind a gate opened by a nearby stone switch. With the pickaxe in the party inventory, click the nearby brown rubble to clear the blocked passage.
Reach the Pickaxe Shelf
- Find the locked gate with a stone switch beside it inside Hollowgrave Tunnels to locate the entrance to the pickaxe room.
- Activate the stone switch to open the gate and gain access to the room.
- Defeat or avoid the worms so you can reach the stone shelf inside.
- Take the pickaxe from the stone shelf so it is available in the party inventory for clearing rubble.
Clear Rubble With the Pickaxe in Your Inventory
- Keep the pickaxe in the party inventory so it is available when you interact with an obstruction that requires it.
- Click the nearby brown rubble blocking the early tunnel route to remove it and reopen the passage.
- Click the compatible collapsed rubble after the spider encounter to clear that later obstruction with the same tool.
Match Each Blockage to Its Tool or Mechanism
The basic pickaxe clears suitable rocks and collapsed rubble, but some harder deposits require a Reinforced Pickaxe. Early tunnel gates use stone switches, while pit crossings rely on throwing items onto pressure plates. The northwestern silver-locked door requires the Silver Key from the Orc Chieftain's private chest.
| Name | Effect | Where to Find or Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Pickaxe | Removes compatible rocks and collapsed rubble, including the early brown blockage and rubble after the spider encounter. | Collect it from the stone shelf inside the Hollowgrave room opened by the nearby stone switch. |
| Reinforced Pickaxe | Handles harder deposits that require the reinforced tool. | Bring it back to a harder deposit marked as requiring a Reinforced Pickaxe. |
| Stone Switch | Operates the early tunnel gates, including the gate leading to the pickaxe room. | Look beside the early tunnel gate for its nearby stone switch. |
| Throwable Item | Activates a pressure plate used to cross a pit room. | Throw an item onto the pressure plate at the pit crossing. |
| Silver Key | Unlocks the northwestern tunnel's silver-locked door. | Collect it from the Orc Chieftain's private chest. |
Choose the Next Action When a Route Stays Blocked
If the early brown rubble still blocks your route, recheck that you collected the pickaxe from the stone shelf and have it in the party inventory. For a harder deposit requiring a Reinforced Pickaxe, mark the location for a later return. At a gate or pit, check the switch, pressure plate, or key requirement before trying the pickaxe again.
